ELLINWOOD — Fourteen stores will kick off the Christmas shopping season in Ellinwood from 1 to 5 p.m. on Nov. 14 complete with festive foods and drinks, drawings and giveaways, and tours of Ellinwood’s Underground World.

For those that have never experienced the Underground World, take a trip back in time to see life during the frontier days with tours offered by local historians.

The Golden Belt Model Railroad Association will host a model train display at the Heritage Senior Center, 103 N. Main.

"Stores will premiere a lot of Christmas items," said Nancy Baird, director of the Ellinwood Chamber of Commerce which sponsors the event. "We’re looking forward to it. It’s a very well attended event."

It will also be the beginning of the Santa Cash promotion with the chance to win chamber gift certificates. For every $25 spent at a participating store, you will receive a chance to win Santa cash. The promotion ends Dec. 17.

The Kansas Wetlands Education Center will set up a booth with items from the gift shop. Participating businesses include Kimples, Gifts of the Garden, Gunn Antiques, Mountain Arts Design, Udder Chaos Crafts, Lone Wolf Restaurant, Ellinwood Leader, Our Mothers Treasures, Star of Hope, Draneys Antiques, The Ellinwood Emporium, Starr Antiques, Ellinwood Underground World, Ellinwood Family Foods and Rejuvenation Day Spa.

Rejuvenation Day Spa will have the debut of its clothes and accessories boutique.

"I always wanted to open a boutique," said Sharon Schartz, owner of Rejuvenations. "I felt the time was right.

"We’ll try to carry all sizes from small through larger plus sizes," she said. "We want to offer things that are unique and different that not everybody else has."
