ELLINWOOD —At the TMP-Marian Monarch Invitational debate tournament on Nov. 5, Ellinwood High School novice debaters Shiani Hughes, Tawny Arndt, and Rachel Schloctermeier won the novice division with a perfect 5-0 record. Hughes was also named top novice speaker in the tournament.

The varsity team of Connor Birzer and Hannah Maddy placed 6th with a 3-2 record. The pairs of Jenna Snell/Hannah Billinger and Jenna Collins/Megan Orndoff also went 3-2 in the open division.

Five EHS Debaters (Birzer, Maddy, Snell, Billinger, and Collins) now have high enough winning percentages to qualify them for state competition in January. The team is coached by Julie Ann Jacobs and assisted by Angela Petersen.
