HOISINGTON — The Hoisington Middle School boys basketball teams just put the finishing touches on a very successful first half of their season by taking on the Larned Indians in a road contest on Monday. The A team defeated Larned for the second time this season 52-39 behind a very balanced scoring attack led by Ryan Broeder with 14 points, followed by Chris Wright and Jacob Warnken with 11 each. Ryan also sealed the deal against Larned the first time around by hitting a shot a the buzzer to give the Cards a win. With victories against Russell, Lyons and Dodge City Sacred Heart, coupled with losses against Hays Kennedy and Central Plains, the Cards own a 5-2 record heading into a rematch with Hays at home on Dec. 8 at the HMS gym starting at 4:30 p.m.

"Hays beat us at their place the first game of the season, when Jacob Warnken got into early foul trouble and sat most of the first half. It was a close game until the very end when they hit a three pointer to earn the win" said Coach Joe Cotten. "We are looking forward to the rematch, where a win should put us in position for the #1 seed in our league tourney in January."

The boys B team sports a record of 6-1 after a hard fought game with the Indians that saw Tyler Specht hit the final shot on a rebound of a miss as time expired to give the Cards a 41-40 victory. The win avenged the B team’s only loss of the season at the hands of the Indians. Specht led the Cards with 16 points, followed by Grant Dolechek with 13 and Taylor Richter with 8. The B team is coached by Eric Hoffman.

Coach Jeb Detter’s C and D teams are 5-1 and 1-1 after tasting defeat at Larned on Monday. Up until then, both teams were undefeated and showing lots of progress as they rolled through their schedule.
