KOC to host beer challenge

HOISINGTON — Those 21 years of age and older is invited to participate in a “Beer Identification Challenge” on Monday, Labor Day, Sept. 2 any time between 2-4:30 p.m. at the Hoisington Knights of Columbus Hall, 114 N. Main.  Cost is $5 to enter for cash and prizes to identify the popular brands of beer.  There is no advance registration.   Stop by and participate or just watch the challenge.  All proceeds support area charities.  

KOC to have Labor Day lunch

HOISINGTON — The Hoisington Knights of Columbus will have a fund raising lunch on Labor Day. They will serve hamburgers, hot dogs, sloppy joes, chips, pies and drinks from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sept. 2 at the KOC Hall, 114 N. Main. It is open to the public.

City softening water again

HOISINGTON — The city of Hoisington is once again softening water. City Manager Jonathan Mitchell reports that a consultant from the manufacturer was in Hoisington last week, and reworked the operational software.
Mitchell reported that the hardness of the city’s water was dropping, indicating that the slaker was softening water. He also suggested having home water softeners recalibrated so that over-softening does not occur.

Landowner rights meeting to be held

HOISINGTON — Kansas Farm Bureau will hold an informational meeting at 1 p.m. Aug. 20 at the  Hoisington Activity Center, 1200 Susank Rd. Grain Belt Express Clean Line LLC has filed an application for a high capacity transmission line through Barton County.
All landowners and concerned citizens are invited to attend.
