HOISINGTON — The Hoisington Chamber of Commerce is accepting entries for the 117th annual Labor Day Parade. The theme of the parade is “Celebrating Life In The Heartland.”This year’s theme focuses on the importance of living in small, active close-knit rural communities.
Parade registration deadline of Aug. 22 fast approaching and places are filling up.
Float entries are divided into five categories. They are Religious Floats, Scout and Student Organizations, 4-H Clubs, Local Organizations and All Other
Floats. A sweepstakes prize of $400 will be awarded to the most outstanding entry. Additional prizes will be awarded in each category, first place in each category
will be $150; second place $75 and third place $50.
Now in it’s 117th year, the annual Labor Day parade on Sept. 2 is one of the largest parades in Kansas and one of Hoisington’s most cherished and longstanding traditions.
Entries will be accepted until the parade deadline of Thursday, Aug. 22. Organizations building floats may not use Business Sponsors names anywhere on the float or towing vehicle. All floats will be judged at 8:15 a.m. on parade day. Each float will be judged in 10 categories with one to ten points being given in each category. A copy of the judging criteria is available upon request.
All other entries for the parade are now also being accepted. Individuals, schools, churches, veterans, businesses and community and civic groups are all invited and encouraged to make it a wonderful day by participating in the parade.
