Hoisington High School concluded the debate season by placing fourth with a 3-5 record at regional debate in Lyons recently, following Sterling in first, Sacred Heart of Salina in second, and Lyons in third. Sterling and Sacred Heart advance to state debate at Fort Scott in January.
Joey Lewis and Robbie Willesden debated on the affirmative side, defeating Centre, but losing to Sterling, Sacred Heart, and Lyons.
Corbin Crawford and Logan McHenry debated on the negative side, defeating Sacred Heart and Centre, but losing to Lyons and Sterling. Ashley McHenry and Hope Chubb judged for us.
In earlier action at Pratt, Robbie Willesden and Jadyn Spears went 2-3, defeating two Larned teams, but losing to teams from Kingman, Lyons, and Trinity of Hutchinson.
In intramural action, Robbie Willesden placed first in the second period class, and Emma Harmon, Shannon Manka, and Corbin Crawford tied for first in the sixth period class.
Robbie Willesden earned the Outstanding Debater Award for the Cardinals, based on his speaker points and success at tournaments, as well as his willingness to help the novices learn debate.
Corbin Crawford, Logan McHenry, and Joey Lewis earned the Outstanding Novice Awards.
Robbie, Corbin, Logan, and Joey all earned debate letters.
