Hoisington to hold demolition derby

HOISINGTON — The 28th annual Kansas State Demolition Derby will be held Sunday, Sept. 4 during this year’s four-day Labor Day Weekend in Hoisington. The Hoisington Chamber of Commerce hosts the annual event. Rules and regulations are available at the Hoisington Chamber office, 123 N. Main, or call 620-653-4311.

Derby drivers will be vying for nearly $3,000 in prize money and trophies. The first place will receive $1,250, second place $700, third place $400, fourth place $250 and fifth place $150.

Prizes of $30 each and a heat trophy will be presented to the three finalists in each heat.

Entry fee for the derby will be $30 for driver and car if registered before Aug. 31. Entry fee at the derby site will be $35. To register before Aug. 31 send your check to the Hoisington Chamber of Commerce, 123 N. Main, Hoisington, KS 67544.

An additional fee of $15 will be charged for each pit man. There will be a limit of five pit-crew members per car.

For additional Demolition Derby fun, the Labor Day Committee has added a Compact Car Division. Advance entry fee is $25, which includes car and driver. If registering at the derby site, entry fee is $30. Prizes of $500 for first place, $200 second prize and $50 third place, along with trophies, will be awarded.

Tickets available at the gate: Adult $8, children 4 –12 $5, and children 3 and under will be admitted for free. The derby will start at 1:30 p.m. and will be held at the Hoisington Ballpark on West Second Street.
