Hoisington to see slight sewer rate increase in 2012

HOISINGTON — Hoisington residents will see a slight increase in sewer rates with January bills. The Hoisington City Council adopted the increase at its regular meeting on Monday after budget reviews last summer.

In the city limits, the minimum charge will go up to $6.20 if water is on with no usage. The usage fee per 1,000 gallons will be $2.45, up from $2.25 per gallon. Outside city limits, the minimum charge is $9.30 with no usage. The charge per 1,000 gallons will go up to $3.70, up from #$3.30 per 1,000 gallons. Residents will see the fees go up in January on their bill.

In a review of fees, the city will charge $100 for refuse removal with an additional charge of $50 per hour for each additional person. There will be an administrative fee of $150 and landfill charges. Vehicle removal cost is $100 per hour, plus towing fee, plus an $150 administrative fee. The cost to rent the Friendship House is $50 per day plus $50 deposit. The cost to rent the gym is $50 per day plus $50 deposit.

A fireworks permit is now $25. Animal license fees are $5 for a spayed or neutered dog or cat after June 30, and for a nonneutered animal, is $15. The charge is $50 for a dangerous dog permit and liability insurance of $250,000 is required.

In other business, the council held a show cause hearing for the garage at 223 E. 1st St. The garage was found unfit, and the owners have 30 days to correct the issue.

The city will hold a public hearing at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 12 on designating Kindscher’s Mule Barn as a Community Improvement District. The project involves significant improvements to the Duckwalls building and the old barber’s shop. The project would be financed through an addition half a percent of sales tax to recover up to $50,000.

Several parking spaces in front of the Hoisington High School were removed to allow more room bus loading by the district. The city has received a couple of written complaints about the changes.

In final business, the council:

•Approved putting city codes online to provide more accessibility to the community. The initial cost is $1,500 and then $750 annually.

•City Manager Jonathan Mitchell reported that the new restaurant, Mi Tierra is planning on opening in early December.

•Mitchell also reported that he has shown the old donut shop to six prospects. The city is considering discounting rent prices for a short period of time.

•Recognized Randy Miller for 25 years of service.

•Recognized Delbert Wagner for 25 years of service.
