HOISINGTON — The Hoisington United Way has raised nearly $18,000 this year and is only $200 short of its goal.

The HUV, which is not associated with the one in Great Bend, supports Hoisington groups such as the Historical Society, Toys for Tots, Salvation Army, Girl and Boy Scouts, Clara Barton Hospital Auxiliary, plus others.

The group, which does no fund raisers, simply asks residents and businesses to donate, said Karen Van Brimmer, board member. They send notices in electric bills and do payroll deductions.

Board members are Karen Van Brimmer, Tina Rose and Gary Dassow.

The group, which is still accepting donations, will start the new year over on Jan. 1.
