BUSHTON — The 13th Annual Spelling Bee at the Kansas State Fair was held Sept. 12.  Students participating from Central Plains Middle School-Bushton were Hannah Beran, Blake Gorton, Andrew Maier, Kealy Burris, Emily Ryan, Delaney Rugan, Rebecca Stratmann and Aubrey Oberle.
The first part of the competition was a thirty-word written exam. While the written exam was being graded the students enjoyed playing Kansas State Fair Trivia. Approximately sixty 6th-8th grade students competed in the written part of the exam with twenty-eight qualifying for the oral competition.
Aubrey Oberle, Hannah Beran and Emily Ryan qualified for the oral competition.  Only 1st and 2nd place finishers are recognized in this event and this year we did not place.  Hannah Beran did take 8th place.
The students did an outstanding job and represented Central Plains very well,” said Principal Jane Oeser. “Congratulations on a job well done!”
