HOISINGTON —As part of the capital campaign to fund the Therapy Services and Laundry Facility expansion project, Teddy Williamson’s family chose to make a pledge to the campaign, in her honor, choosing to rename the Nurse’s Station, where Teddy put in many long hours as former chief of Nursing at Clara Barton.
“It’s an honor to recognize Teddy’s dedicated service to our hospital, and to her patients throughout her career,” said Curt Colson, president and CEO of Clara Barton Hospital. “Her commitment to the health of our community is inspiring, and we are delighted that her family chose our hospital for this dedication.”
Teddy was surprised by all of her immediate and most of her extended family, on her birthday, April 4, 2014, with a presentation and reception at the Nurse’s Station. Colson presented Teddy with a certificate stating that from that date forward, the nurse’s station would be named in her honor, courtesy of her family. The news was kept under wraps while the capital campaign was going through its “quiet phase”.
Teddy, wife of Hoisington mayor, Clayton Williamson, has been a stanchion of support for Clara Barton Hospital, even in the most difficult of times, including the F4 tornado that ripped apart the hospital in 2001. On call that night, Teddy remembers using the board room as the emergency treatment room, since the trauma room was “unusable”.
Even after all this time, patients and co-workers remember Teddy’s dedication to patient safety and care, helping doctors triage, scheduling medical staff rotations, covering Red Cross shelters, and caring for her patients from 10 days old to 105 years old.
Teddy remembers it as an “adventuresome night.” Her commitment to her patients showed that night, and many others through the years, from her time as a Medical Corpsman, in the Army, to working at the Health Department, Central Kansas Medical Center, and then serving at Clara Barton.
Teddy is now retired, but is still devoted to the health of Hoisington and the surrounding area, serving as her parish nurse and as a member of the Kansas Nursing Association, the Barton Community College Nursing board, the Barton County Health Department Advisory Board, and the Meals on Wheels Advisory Board.
The Hospital, Foundation, and Auxiliary administration, staff, and providers could not be more proud to work at the Teddy Williamson Nurse’s Station at Clara Barton Hospital. Thank you to Teddy for your steadfast service, and thank you to the Williamson/Zoller families for living Teddy’s legacy, by supporting quality healthcare in Hoisington, with your gift to the capital campaign!
