A Colorado Springs, Colo., man was taken to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita after he accidentally shot himself  Thursday morning while he and his dad were driving north of Hosington, Barton County Sheriff Brian Bellendir said.
At about 10:45 a.m. Thursday, Bellendir said Barton County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to Clara Barton Hospital in Hoisington after 26-year-old Kristopher G. Gibbs walked in with a gunshot would in his left calf. He was with his father, Rex Gibbs, also of Colorado Springs.
Bellendir said with Rex Gibbs driving, the two were southbound on U.S. 281 just north of the K-4 junction. Kristopher Gibbs picked up a 9-mm handgun and, not realizing it was loaded, pulled the trigger.
Rex Gibbs took his son to the emergency room at Clara Barton. Although the injuries were not considered life threatening, he was transferred to Wesley for more treatment.
A case was filed, but the sheriff said the incident was ruled accidental.
