The Unified School District 428 Board of Education will continue interviews for the next superintendent of schools this week. Dr. Tom Vernon has tendered his resignation for the end of this school year.
Mike Roth will be interviewed on Tuesday. He has been in administration for 13 years, most recently serving as the superintendent of Clearwater schools in Sedgwick County for eight years. He was also the superintendent at Deerfield and a teacher at Johnson and Healy.
Roth is a graduate of Kansas State University with a degree in physical education. He has a master’s degree in building leadership from Kansas Newman University and is scheduled to complete a doctorate in education from Southwestern College this summer.
Dr. Brad Reed will be interviewed on Wednesday. He is the director of student services for Bentonville, Ark., public schools. He has also served as the principal at Minneapolis, Kan., High School and Oskaloosa High School and Southeast High School in Cherokee, Kan. He was an assistant principal at Great Bend High School during the 1991-92 school year.
Reed has a doctorate degree in education administration. His bachelor’s degree in secondary education is from Arizona State University and his master’s degree is from Northern Arizona University.
Community members will have an opportunity to meet the candidates during public receptions to be held at the Great Bend High School commons area. The reception for Roth is Tuesday at 3:15 p.m. and the reception for Reed is Wednesday at 3:45 p.m.
Two other candidates have already been interviewed. They are John Thissen, superintendent at Herington, and Rex Bollinger, superintendent at Doniphan West.
