A Great Bend man died and two people were injured on Saturday, after vehicles collided at the U.S. 281/K-19 junction, 11 miles north of St. John in Barton County.

Kansas Highway Patrol reports Rock Wayne Becker, 50, of Great Bend, died in the collision. Nicholas Alexander Steele, 20, of Tuscon, Ariz., and Darcy W. Wedel, 39, of Great Bend, were taken to Great Bend Regional Hospital with undetermined injuries.

Both Wedel and Steele were released from the hospital Saturday.

Steele was driving a 2007 Dodge passenger car and was eastbound on K-19 at 12:30 p.m. Becker was driving north on U.S. 281, in a 2008 Cadillac Sport Utility Vehicle that was pulling trailer loaded with produce. Steele failed to stop at the stop sign at U.S. 281, causing the front of his car to strike the left front of Becker’s vehicle. Both vehicles then went into the field, with the SUV coming to rest on its right side. The trailer landed partially on top of Steele’s car.

All three people were wearing seat belts.
