Santa's Workshop opens Monday

After Thanksgiving, the elves at the north pole get busy. A winter tradition, Santa’s Workshop will be open from 6-8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 2, at the City Auditorium.
Garet Fitzpatrick at the Great Bend Recreation Commission notes that a number of volunteers will help to transform the City Auditorium into the 17th annual Santa’s Workshop, a free event “designed for preschool through sixth graders and their families and those young at heart.” Enter through the doors on the southwest corner of the auditorium.
Expect a crowd as kids visit booths for craft activities, candy treats, games of skill, popcorn, prizes and balloons. They can also talk to Santa Claus.
Preschoolers and others who need a less intense experience may attend a “mini workshop” in the Burnside Room of the Carl Soden Recreation Center. Its doors are on the northwest side of the building at 1214 Stone St.
Great Bend High School students, community volunteers and GBRC staff organize and work at Santa’s Workshop. Groups represented include the GBHS Presidents Club, Student Council, National Honor Society, World Language Club, DECA, Kays, Kayettes, FBLA, FFA, FEA, Pep Club, Theater Club, Art Club, Parents As Teachers, Parent Teacher Resource Center (PTRC), Sunflower Early Education Center, Great Bend Public Library Children’s Department, BCC Sports Medicine staff, and representatives from the GBHS freshman, sophomore, junior and senior classes.
The Great Bend Middle School jazz band and El Sol Mexican Folk Dancers will perform during the evening.
The Parents As Teachers, PTRC, Sunflower Early Education Center and Great Bend Public Library Children’s Department will provide the mini workshop in the Burnside Room.
A number of business have also provided donations for this event.
