HOISINGTON — Lincoln School in Hoisington is the oldest school in the USD 431 school district, and the school board has been considering plans for modernization of the building.
Superintendent Bill Lowry told the school board at its regular meeting on Monday that engineer planners had looked at the building and offered a couple of more things to consider, in addition to a facilities report.
The engineers said that every pipe in the building is wrapped in asbestos, which is not a problem as long as it’s not disturbed. However, any upgrades will have to include cost for asbestos removal.
Also, the building is not fully handicapped accessible, he told the board.
The district and school board will hold a meeting with committee members who participated in district planning a couple of years ago at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 27. The engineering planners’ report will be presented. The meeting is open to the public.
In other business, the district will have a building and termite inspection on the building that will be used for the entrepreneurship project. Lowry said he anticipates signing the papers in May or before.
Adams Brown Beran and Ball was present to give an audit report. They recommended review of pay rates by a second person, have classes close bank accounts after graduation, and reduce the use of the superintendent’s stamp.
The board approved the audit.
In final business, the board approved:
• A donation to the Clara Barton Foundation.
• Appointed Maggie Alderdice as a KASB Convention Delegate and Sara Tarlton as  alternate.
• Meg Wilson and Jennifer Steinert will attend the national Promising Practices conference to receive the award for the Medal of Honor project.
• Approved the audit contract for Adams Brown Beran and Ball for the next three years at a cost of $9450, $9875 and $10,300 over the next three years.
• The retirement of Clayton Spires as bus driver and hiring Mykela Riedl as middle school girls’ basketball assistant coach.
