LARNED — Ace pitcher Isiah Perez threw a five-hit shutout and Larned's baseball team swept Lyons 5-3 and 8-0 in Friday's Central Kansas League doubleheader.
Defending CKL champion Larned (8-0, 8-0) leads the league with Nickerson and Pratt one game back.
LARNED 5, LYONS 3 — Reliever Gage Skelton preserved a 5-3 victory with four solid innings. Skelton worked out of a two-on, two-out fifth-inning situation by retiring Justin Oberle.
Larned led 1-0 when Perez's single scored Landon Erway and Perez scored on a first-inning error for a 2-0 lead. Lyons tied it 2-2 when Tristan Heath and Riley Kirkhart scored runs and Drake Link delivered a third-inning RBI off starter Evan Skelton.
Lions pulled ahead 3-2 when Blaine Shea's double scored Nathan Robl, who singled off Gage Skelton.
The Indians tied the game 3-3 when Gage Skelton's fourth-inning single scored  Johnathon Herter.
Larned pulled ahead 5-3 off pitcher Jordan Douglas when Alex Barger delivered the game-winning single to score Herter and Gage Skelton after a hit batter and a single.

LARNED 8, LYONS 0 —Perez struck out eight batters and pitched effectively with runners on base to preserve an 8-0 victory. Perez stranded two runners in the fourth inning when he retired Jordan Douglas, Ryan Prey and Brendan Clark. He kept his shutout with two runners on by retiring Nathan Robl, Drake Link an Tristan Heath.
Larned broke ahead 4-0 in the first inning off starter Tyler Edwards. Mason Schartz doubled, Evan Skelton walked and Landon Erway reached on an error. Perez drove in a run with a groundout. Herter's single drove home Erway for a  3-0 lead and Barger's RBI single Perez for a 4-0 lead.
Erway's sacrifice fly drove home Schartz in the second inning for a 5-0 lead. Barger, Tanner Galliart and Carson Smith loaded the bases in the fourth inning. Schartz's two-run single scored Barger and Galliart for a 7-0 lead. Perez's RBI single drove home Schartz for an 8-0 lead in the sixth inning.
