Fort Larned National Historic Site (NHS) is announcing modifications to operations to implement the latest guidance from the White House, Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC), and local and state authorities to promote social distancing.

FORT LARNED — Fort Larned’s Labor Day Weekend celebration includes a birthday party you won’t want to miss!
Children of all ages are invited to celebrate the 99th Birthday of the National Park Service on Sunday, Sept. 6.
Birthday party times are at 1 p.m., featuring “The Tale of Two Towns” and 2 p.m. featuring “The Boy & the Bullfrog.”
Both programs will include old fashioned toys and games and a slice of birthday cake in the Visitor Center.
Along with the Park Service birthday celebration, Fort Larned will once again come to life with their Labor Day Weekend living history event. You’ll be able to ride an old fashioned carriage, watch soldiers demonstrate rifle and artillery fire, see the blacksmith turn ordinary steel into everyday objects, and learn about life on Officers’ Row.
The carriage rides, living history, special demonstrations and talks will be available on all three days. Come out and end your summer with a celebration of our nation’s history. Here is the schedule of events for all three days.
In celebration of the National Park Service Centennial, Fort Larned National Historic Site invites you to discover the meaning of national parks, how your park inspires you — both in personal connections and memorable experiences.
Fort Larned National Historic Site is six miles west of Larned on K-156. Open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., information on visiting is on the Internet at www.nps.gov/fols, or by calling 620-285-6911. There is free admission. Learn more at www.nps.gov.
