LARNED — Superintendent Kevin McMurry has announced that Fort Larned National Historic Site, a unit of the U.S. National Park Service, will be closed Dec. 25 and Dec. 26.
“Employees at the Fort wish everyone a very joyous holiday and safe travels, and we are eager to welcome visitors back to Larned’s National Park on Tuesday, December 27,” McMurry said.
Fort Larned will also be closed New Year’s Day, Jan. 1 and Jan. 2 and will reopen Tuesday Jan. 3.
McMurry said anyone is welcome to shop for last-minute Christmas gifts by Saturday.
“The Fort’s bookstore, operated by the Western National Parks Association, is stocked with items that make great gifts,” he said. “Any visit to Fort Larned can easily include the Santa Fe Trail Center and other area attractions.”
Fort Larned National Historic Site is six miles west of Larned on K-156. Fort Larned is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The park’s Visitor Center/Museum and all furnished buildings are free to visit.
