LARNED — Although their actual anniversary isn’t until April 20, the weather was perfect for Wayne Hesher to get out and visit his lovely bride with the assistance of his nurse.
And Patti was certainly surprised when Wayne showed up a week early to celebrate their 62nd wedding anniversary at Pawnee Valley Community Hospital.
Deeply touched by the surprise visit by her husband, Patti commented that Wayne has been known to leave little surprises for her throughout their lives together. This time his surprise only included a visit, a rose bouquet as well as a chocolate bouquet, because chocolate is her favorite.
Although neither were originally from Larned, they both came to Larned to work at the Larned State Hospital. Wayne grew up in Gypsum, while Patti originally resided in Kansas City Mo.
And it was here in Larned that they met and stayed and built their lives together for the next 62 years. After 40 years of service, Wayne retired as the CFO from Larned State Hospital in 1990. He also served as business manager. Patti, after 22 years, retired that same year as a nurse at Larned State Hospital.
Patti is currently active in the PVCH Auxiliary, the Larned Garden Club and United Methodist Women’s group.
The couple are parents to three sons — Ed, Amarillo, Texas; Tom, Larned; and Mike, Hoisington, and a daughter, Sandy Chelcun, Estes Park, Colo. They also have one granddaughter who is currently in college.
