PRATT — Hoisington High’s three-time state champion Brandon Ball led three Cardinal wrestlers to first place at the Pratt Tournament. The Cardinals scored 160 points and finished third behind Wichita Northwest and Augusta.
Brandon Ball (138) defeated Marco Perez of Ulysses, 10-0, in the finals. Johnathan Ball (145) pinned Wichita Northwest’s Justin Onwugbufor in 1:19. McHenry pinned Wichita Northwest’s Matt Washee in 2:56.
Hoisington’s Landon Harmon (120) finished second with a 10-2 loss to Pratt’s Nick Lucas. Hunter Hanzlick (170) placed third with a 9-5 win over Pratt’s Ethan Sharp.  Landen Urban (285) placed third with a pin in 1:58 over Nickerson’s Heim.
Christopher Ball (152), K.C. Stephens (195) and Chance Boor (220) each placed fourth. Holcomb’s Chance Rodriguez defeated Ball 10-2; Nickerson’s Cody Curl downed Stephens 4-1. Augusta’s Ian O’Laughlin outlasted Boor 7-5 in overtime.

CIMARRON — Larned’s Jeremiah Slattery (180) pinned Curt Frink in 1:33 and Nick Warrick (195) def. Charlie Coleman 12-4 in a 59-22 dual loss to Cimarron High School.
Larned’s Hunter Fitzpatrick and Wes Davis each won by forfeit.
“The kids had a rusty start which is to be expected with a young team,” said Larned coach Quinton Burgess. “We lost 59-22 to Cimarron and came back to wrestle much better and pulled out a win over Holcomb.  Jeremiah Slattery was among the most surprising and outstanding wrestlers going 2-0. Nick Warrick also wrestled well, posting a 2-0 record. Hunter Fitzpatrick pulled out a big win at 113.  I look forward to the rest of the season and am excited to see the impact that Marcus Nolde, Jalen Kraisinger, Kobe Kraisinger, and several freshmen make.”
