LARNED — To celebrate Larned’s Santa Fe Trail Days, the Santa Fe Trail Center is proud to present “Music from the Pawnee,” a temporary exhibit on the importance of music to the lives of those living in the Pawnee County area.
Admission to the museum galleries and outdoor exhibits will be half price on Saturday, April 30, in recognition of Santa Fe Trail Days.
The Trail Center’s music exhibit from this winter has been revised and expanded to feature musical instruments as well as artifacts related to sound recording and reproduction. Items from the collection are on display, as well as memorabilia from numerous area residents. Items will be displayed through Memorial Day.
The display includes an 1890s acoustic guitar, “Comrade” Smith’s violin, and one of Larned’s first television sets with built-in radio and phonograph.
Also on display are memorabilia from local artists such as The Fabulous Flippers and Susan Lane Stokes. Visitors can relive childhood memories by viewing a selection of children’s musical toys.
The Santa Fe Trail Center is located two miles west of Larned on K-156. The museum is open Tuesdays through Sundays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is closed on Mondays from Labor Day to Memorial Day.
