Plumbing issues close Larned kitchen
But, meal deliveries will continue
Welcome Inn Larned
With the temporary closure of the Welcome Inn kitchen, Friendship Meals delivery in Larned will continue with help from the Great Bend Senior Center.

LARNED — While the kitchen at the Welcome Inn Senior Center is closed, Friendship Meals delivery to Larned residents continues, noted Marilyn Bell, director of transportation services and Friendship Meals in the community.

Last Friday, Bell issued an announcement that due to plumbing issues, the Welcome Inn kitchen would be closed until further notice.

A local plumber was immediately contacted to assess the situation and begin repairs. “We’re hoping that we can get the issue resolved by sometime next week, but there really is no way of knowing at this point,” Bell said.

The Welcome Inn provides daily meals to more than 50 Larned homebound residents. In the interim, delivery will continue with meals prepared by the Great Bend Senior Center Friendship Meals kitchen.

“We are really grateful to Great Bend for their help,” Bell said.

The Welcome Inn office remains open, although the kitchen is currently closed, Bell noted. This includes regular dine-in services.

Meanwhile, residents may still schedule transportation needs as well as sign-up for meal delivery by contacting the Welcome Inn during office hours from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 620-285-3504.
