The Kansas Post Rock Limestone Coalition sponsors the “Bells & Whistles - Industrial & Art Age” bus tour on Saturday, June 8. Join the all-day guided, Post Rock Limestone-themed motor coach tour. Experience the sights, sounds, smells, and touch of the history of Ellis, Russell, and Ellsworth counties in Kansas.
Leaving Hays Big Creek Crossing Mall at 8 a.m., the group will visit the historic St. Fidelis Basilica, cemetery, the Native American Massacre Site in Victoria, George Grant Villa, Fort Fletcher Stone Arch Bridge, Saint Ann’s Church, learn about the Central Kansas Transportation Corridor and end the morning in Wilson, discovering post-rock architecture and military history complete with accordion music before enjoying an authentic German lunch.
The afternoon tours include traveling the beautiful Post Rock Scenic Byway to Lucas, where you will learn where the first post-rock fence post was quarried and installed. Spend most of the afternoon in Lucas, experiencing the post-rock architecture, art, commerce, and eccentric art environments, and join in a wedding march dance. Tour the Grassroots Art Center’s Limestone courtyard, Garden of Eden, Bowl Plaza, Garden of Isis, and Deeble’s Rock Garden with a Limestone cellar. If you ever want to participate in a German Wedding March led by Neil and Susan Unrein and musicians, be at Lucas Main Street at 3:10 p.m. for a delightful experience.
Leaving Lucas, the bus will again head back to Hays via Luray and Bunker Hill, where participants will learn more about the Central Kansas Transportation Corridor.
