1 Howard McNair

United States Army Veteran Howard (Arky) McNair was awarded a Quilt of Valor from Golden Plains Quilts of Valor on March 29, 2019, at the American Legion Post 180 in Great Bend. Arky served from 1957 to 1960, stationed for over two years in Germany with the Fourth Armored Division. The quilt top was made by Phyllis Manhart; quilting by Amy Schartz Mellor. 2 Benjamin Millard

United States Air Force veteran Benjamin Millard was awarded a Quilt of Valor from Golden Plains Quilts of Valor on March 29, 2019, at the American Legion Post 180 in Great Bend. Ben served from 1957 to 1961 as a hydraulic specialist, working on B-52, B-36, and C-135 planes, while he was stationed in Texas. 3 Roy Doonan

United States Navy veteran Roy Doonan was awarded a Quilt of Valor from Golden Plains Quilts of Valor on March 29, 2019, at the American Legion Post 180 in Great Bend. Roy served from 1959 to 1964 as a radioman, stationed at the south pole for 13 months during Operation Deep Freeze. The quilt top was made by Judy Burnette; quilting by Amy Schartz Mellor. 4 Jim Oberle

United States Army veteran Jim Oberle was awarded a Quilt of Valor from Golden Plains Quilts of Valor on March 29, 2019, at the American Legion Post 180 in Great Bend. Jim served from 1963 to 1965, stationed at Wainwright, Alaska, as a turret mechanic with the 40th Armored Division Motor Pool. The quilt top was made by Anne Beck; quilting by Amy Schartz Mellor. 5 Charles Haynes

United States Navy veteran Charles (Chuck) Haynes was awarded a Quilt of Valor from Golden Plains Quilts of Valor on March 29, 2019, at the American Legion Post 180 in Great Bend. Chuck served from 1963 to 1967 as an interior communication specialist aboard the submarine USS Diodon SS349. Chuck worked on various equipment on the submarine, including the sound systems and gyro compasses. The Diodon was mainly in the Pacific and was the only submarine to surface in the Gulf of Tonkin during the Vietnam War. The quilt top was made by Judy Burnette; quilting by Amy Schartz Mellor. 6 Dennis Trapp

United States Army veteran Dennis Trapp was awarded a Quilt of Valor from Golden Plains Quilts of Valor on March 29, 2019, at the American Legion Post 180 in Great Bend. Dennis served from 1965 to 1971. He was stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas, where he spent an extended period of time in combat training with Company A, Second Battalion, 67th Armored Division of the Fourth U.S. Army. He completed his military service in the Army Reserve. The quilt top was made by Alice Stoskopf; quilting by Amy Schartz Mellor. 7 Arlyn North

United States Army veteran Arlyn North was awarded a Quilt of Valor from Golden Plains Quilts of Valor on March 29, 2019, at the American Legion Post 180 in Great Bend. Arlyn served from 1966 to 1967 as a medic, and was stationed in Germany. The quilt top was made by Phyllis Manhart; quilting by Amy Schartz Mellor. 8 James Kiewel

United States Army Vietnam veteran James Kiewel was awarded a Quilt of Valor from Golden Plains Quilts of Valor on March 29, 2019, at the American Legion Post 180 in Great Bend. James served from 1969 to 1972. He was trained as a helicopter mechanic and served in Vietnam. The quilt top was made by Elaine Dopita; quilting by Amy Schartz Mellor. 9 Daniel Coaty

United States Coast Guard veteran Daniel Coaty was awarded a Quilt of Valor from Golden Plains Quilts of Valor on March 29, 2019, at the American Legion Post 180 in Great Bend. Daniel served as a machinery technician in Yorktown, Virginia, and Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, from 1975 to 1979. He then joined the Army Reserve from 1979 to 2002. 10 Kendall Lang

United States Navy veteran Kendall Lang was awarded a Quilt of Valor from Golden Plains Quilts of Valor on March 29, 2019, at the American Legion Post 180 in Great Bend. Kendall served from 1992 to 1999 aboard the USS Carl Vinson in supply as an Aviation Storekeeper VS3553 B Squadron. They were part of the southern watch during the Iraq War. Kendall’s active duty ended in 1994 and he joined the Naval Reserve until 1999. Kendall is currently the Veteran’s Representative with Kansas Works. 11 Margaret Trapp

United States Army veteran Margaret (Meg) Trapp Houston was awarded a Quilt of Valor from Golden Plains Quilts of Valor on March 29, 2019, at the American Legion Post 180 in Great Bend. Meg served from 2002 to 2006 with B Company 299th FSB at Schweinfurt, Germany, as a diesel mechanic. She was also stationed in Iraq with B Company 215th FSC. 12 Corey Torrez

United States Navy veteran Corey Torrez was awarded a Quilt of Valor from Golden Plains Quilts of Valor on March 29, 2019, at the American Legion Post 180 in Great Bend. Corey served from 2010 to 2015 as a Seabee, specializing in welding. Corey served two tours in Djibouti, Africa and Timor. The quilt top was made by Phyllis Manhart; quilting by Amy Schartz Mellor.
