Christian rap singer coming to Great Bend

CrossPoint Church’s youth group will travel to Worlds of Fun in Kansas City, Mo., at the conclusion of vacation Bible school, youth pastor Randy Mills said. In addition to that, a Christian rap singer will come to Great Bend.
“The theme is roller coasters,” Mills said. He reasoned, if a VBS theme is roller coasters, the kids should have a chance to ride some real roller coasters. The amusement park has seven.
CrossPoint’s VBS for students in grades 7-9 runs from 7-9 p.m. July 16-18. The trip to Worlds of Fun on July 19-20 is optional and the cost is $40, Mills said. Those making the trip will also need to bring some money for food. A $20 non-refundable deposit is required by the first night of the VBS, Tuesday, July 16.
“We’re excited about it,” Mills said, adding sponsors would like anyone who wants to take the trip to first attend all three days of VBS, where they can “hang out, and learn something new.” The series is called “Thrill Seekers: Embrace the Unexpected.”
“Really, it’s more about facing your fears,” he said. Timothy 1:7 says, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” (New King James Version). With that in mind, he’ll also be challenging students who go to Worlds of Fun to ride the roller coasters. Mills will also face one of his “fears,” just to be fair. “I’m not a fan of the Mamba (roller coaster),” he said. So, in addition to his favorite, The Patriot, he’ll be on the Mamba.

Music for all
The third day of vacation Bible school, Thursday, July 18, will feature Christian rap singer Brian Brillhart from Hutchinson. Families are welcome.
“Brian’s style — he’s pretty good,” Mills said. “He just finished a CD.” Copies may be purchased at the July 18 program. Proceeds will be used to help build a new CrossPoint Church at Hutchinson.
