Here is a summary of action taken Wednesday at the Great Bend USD 428 Board of Education meeting.
Contributions were accepted from Sunflower Bank, which facilitated the ABC Program to Promote Education. Earnings accrue through banking procedures related to specific accounts and the number of students’ A’s on report cards for registered schools. The following donations went to the schools: Eisenhower Elementary, $418; Jefferson Elementary, $325; Lincoln Elementary, $423; Park Elementary, $524; Riley Elementary, $683; Great Bend Middle School, $293; and Great Bend High School, $803.
A contribution was accepted from Dr. Marshall, who donated $500 to the GBHS Variety Show.
The board approved a roofing project at Eisenhower Elementary School for $189,900. The work is to be done by High Plains Roofing Inc., which submitted the proposal, and will be completed by the end of July, weather permitting.
Assistant Superintendent Khris Thexton said this project is within the insurance claim from the Sept. 10, 2016 storm. That is the same storm that damaged the roof at Lincoln Elementary. The damage to Eisenhower’s roof was discovered later.
The board approved four teacher resignations: Meredith Hill, first grade teacher at Riley; Jennifer Oborny, Early Childhood Special Education teacher; Emily Newby, fifth grade teacher at Jefferson; and Katrina Ringler, social studies teacher at GBMS.
The board approved five teacher appointments: Alyssa Bliven, GBMS art; Joseph Bliven, GBMS science; Adam Cline, Eisenhower sixth grade; Kelly Noland, Eisenhower second grade; and Don Regehr, GBHS band.
