St. Johns Episcopal invites public to Pancake Supper
St Johns pancake supper
St. Johns Episcopal Church will hold a Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 25. Pictured from left: Karen Klein-Martin, Leslie Mingenback and Mother Teresa Lahar having fun cooking pancakes at last year’s pancake supper.

St. Johns Episcopal Church will kick off the Lenten season with its annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 25, at the church, located at 17th and Adams Street in Great Bend. Deacon George Martin’s famous pancakes along with sausage and a drink are on the menu. There is no charge for the meal; however, a freewill offering would be appreciated.

Shrove Tuesday (also known as Fat Tuesday, Pancake Tuesday or Pancake Day) is the day in February or March immediately preceding Ash Wednesday (the first day of Lent, which this year is on Feb. 26).  Shrove Tuesday is celebrated in some countries by consuming pancakes.

In others, especially those where it is called Mardi Gras or some translation thereof, this is a carnival day, and also the last day of “fat eating” or “gorging” before the fasting period of Lent.

So, church members invite you to join your friends and come to the St. Johns Episcopal Church Pancake Supper on Tues. Feb. 25th from 5-7 p.m.
