A driver and two passengers managed to escape the driver’s SUV Wednesday afternoon after it burst into flames, Great Bend Fire Chief Mike Napolitano said.
The Great Bend Fire Department was called to the 2500 block of Forest Avenue at around 4 p.m. after a report of a vehicle fire. They found the 1984 Chevrolet Blazer fully engulfed in fire.
The owner, Ryan Aumiller, and the two riding with him, managed to get out of the vehicle. They told firefighters they had just gotten done working on the transmission, which was apparently the cause of the blaze, Napolitano said.
They were driving down Washington, smelled something and saw flames coming out from the engine. The Blazer was a total loss.
