Work will begin soon on a $4.46 million bridge replacement on U.S. 56 in Pawnee County.

The Kansas Department of Transportation project also includes grading and pavement surfacing. The bridge being replaced is over Big Coon Creek, within a mile southwest of Garfield.

The work is expected to start around Aug. 2 and be completed around early next June.

During the construction, traffic will be reduced to one lane through the work zone and controlled by traffic signals. Motorists should be prepared to stop and face delays.

Venture Corp., of Great Bend, is the primary contractor for the $4,459,106 project.
