When the Great Bend USD 428 Board of Education meets Monday, board members will continue to look at the potential for developing a small virtual school option for district students in grades 6-12. The meeting starts at 5 p.m. on Jan. 11 at the District Education Center, 201 South Patton Road.

Other items on the agenda include the 2019-2020 audit presentation, purchase of Chromebooks, policy revisions, fundraiser requests for 2021-2022, and recognition of school board members.

Two resolutions are on the agenda.

The S.B. 130 law passed in April 2019 changed the month that school boards elect the board president and vice-president to January instead of July. In the first resolution, USD 428 wishes to extend the term of the current president and vice-president for the remainder of the current school year and, with the adoption of the resolution, elect new officers at the July organizational meeting. Furthermore, reaffirming the meeting dates and times for the remainder of the current school year is requested.

The second resolution would extend the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which provided paid employee leave for the COVID-19 virus. It expired Dec. 31, 2020, but the resolution would extend it through the end of the school year.
