Great Bend USD 428 hosted several schools and other organizations for its pre-enrollment event on April 5 at the Great Bend Convention Center. Walking to the left you see the pre-schools available and walking to the right you see the kindergarten schools available.

Great Bend USD 428 created a “one stop shop” event on Wednesday that will make the initial enrollment process for school easier. This pre-enrollment fair offered school options for 3-year-old and 4-year-old preschoolers as well as kindergartners. Both private and public schools were present at this event.

Other organizations that support the development of young learners were also present. Organizations such as the Great Bend Public Library, Kansas Wetlands Education Center, Parents as Teachers, and Great Bend Rec were all present this year.

“Beyond being a convenience for families, we hope the ‘one-stop-shop’ style event showcases the unity of our USD 428 elementary schools and preschool programs in our curriculums, academic standards, and student support,” said Assistant Superintendent Tricia Reiser. “There is a high level of coordination and collaboration in our district that provides benefits to students, families, and teachers.”

This come-and-go event began at 1 p.m. on Wednesday and offered the opportunity for parents to speak with teachers and other support staff. Discussions ranged from academic programs, social-emotional support, attendance requirements, and more.

“Learning begins long before a child enters kindergarten,” Reiser said. “Our enrollment fair ... is an opportunity for parents and families to learn more about USD 428 Preschool and kindergarten programs and connect with community resources that serve young learners.”
