VFW, auxiliary host Mid-Winter Meeting

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3111 and its auxiliary hosted a District 5 Mid-Winter Meeting on Jan. 20. District Commander Terry Fletcher and District President Michelle Pfautz presided over meetings. State Commander Patrick Briggs was also present.

Thirty-eight post members and 20 auxiliary members attended from McPherson, Hutchinson, Pratt, Derby, Wichita, Haysville, South Hutchinson, Harper and Great Bend.

Briggs has been a member of the VFW for four decades and is a life member of Post 3111, Great Bend. He earned his eligibility through service in the U.S. Navy with overseas dates from November-December 1968, April-October 1969 and November 1971-July 1972 in the Gulf of Tonkin and DaNang Harbor where he earned the Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.

The next district meeting will be April 28 at VFW Post 6957 in Haysville. State Convention will be June 7-9 in Hutchinson.

VFW Post 3111 Auxiliary President Doug Fuhr noted the Great Bend meeting followed the VFW Mid-Winter Conference held Jan. 13 at Junction City.
