A rural Ellinwood woman is in custody after allegedly firing a rifle during a domestic incident Saturday evening, Barton County Sheriff Brian Bellendir said.
At about 5:30 p.m. Saturday, the Barton County Sheriff’s Office responded to a location in the 400 block of SE. 60th Avenue southeast of Great Bend. Deputies were responding to a possible domestic disturbance, Bellendir said.
Upon arrival, officers contacted the parties involved and during the course the investigation discovered one of the individuals had discharged a rifle in the general direction of the other party. The victim was not struck by any rounds and no injuries were reported, he said.
Arrested at the scene was Valerie Burns, 40 of rural Ellinwood. Burns was arrested without incident and transported to the Barton County jail where she was booked on requested charges of aggravated assault using a deadly weapon. Burns is being held in lieu of a $20,000 bond.
