LUCAS — A rollover crash was reported at 6:25 a.m. Thursday on K-18 and K-232, 1 mile east of Lucas in Russell County. Kansas Highway Patrol reports Shaun William Tappendick, 39, of Salina, was driving north on K-232 when he fell asleep at the wheel of a 2003 GMC sport utility vehicle and failed to stop at K-18.  The SUV traveled off the roadway, went airborne and rolled several times, coming to rest on its side in a field.

Tappendick had no apparent injury but his passenger, 27-year-old Alec Jon Vause from Salina, complained of pain and was transported to Ellsworth County Medical Center with a possible injury. Both were wearing safety restraints.
