Driver hits pole during pursuit

Great Bend police were in pursuit, briefly, of a car driven by a 19- or 20-year-old man at 3:11 a.m. Wednesday. The driver and a juvenile passenger were picked up after the car struck a light pole on the northwest corner of Eighth and Elm.

Capt. Bob Robinson said the case began when an officer patrolling the area saw a young male on foot on the northeast side of a convenience store on 10th St. "He saw the black-and-white and ran."

The juvenile, who was 16 or 17 years old, entered the passenger side of an older Ford, and the car took off. It went south on Elm St., down an ally and then east on Ninth, turned right onto Hickory and then went east on Eight. "He was obviously running from the officer," Robinson said.

Police were still working on the case report Wednesday afternoon.
