A Dodge City man died Sunday after the motorcycle he was operating went off U.S. 283 in Ford County.

Kansas Highway Patrol reports the crash occurred at 3:25 p.m. A 2011 Harley-Davidson motorcycle driven by Gilberto Gallegos, 33, was northbound on U.S. 282 about seven miles south of U.S. 56 when he attempted to pass a vehicle traveling in the same direction. The driver crossed the center line, lost control and laid the motorcycle over on its left side. Gallegos was not wearing a helmet. He was transported to the Western Plains Morgue in Dodge City.
