Felony theft of bicycle solved
GBPD-patch-2016

A custom-built bicycle valued at $2,500 that was stolen late in September has been recovered and a suspect from Rice County was arrested, the Great Bend Police Department reported Monday. Michael Glass, 42, was arrested in Rice County last Wednesday, Oct. 12, and booked into the Barton County Jail on charges of felony theft and criminal damage to property in lieu of a $5,000 bond.

GBPD took a report on Sept. 28 of the theft of a black “FlyBikes” (a BMX brand) custom-built bicycle that occurred at Great Bend Middle School.

According to a statement issued Monday, investigating detectives were able to identify the person seen in a video cutting the lock off the bicycle and taking it. On Oct. 12, GBPD detectives with the assistance of the Rice County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at 102 E. 2nd St. in Alden, in connection to the case. Located on the property was the stolen bicycle. Glass was arrested at that address.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information in reference to this case or any other case is urged to contact the GBPD by calling 620-792-4120, or leave an anonymous tip at Crime Stoppers, 620-792-1300 or online at p3tips.com.
