One juvenile is in custody following a short vehicle pursuit southwest of Great Bend early Sunday morning.

According to Barton County Sheriff Brian Bellendir, at about 3:42 a.m. Sunday, a BCSO deputy was on patrol in the 300 block of SW 60 Avenue and attempted to initiate a vehicle stop on a white 2013 Chevrolet Impala for a traffic infraction. The vehicle then fled from the deputy.

The chase lasted for about 11 miles and reached speeds in excess of 100 miles an hour. The driver then attempted to turn into a field, at which time the vehicle became stuck. The driver then fled on foot. Deputies along with the canine unit from the Great Bend Police Department were deployed in an attempt to locate the suspect but were unsuccessful.

Later that morning, a juvenile was taken into custody in the 700 block of West U.S. 56.

The BCSO investigation is continuing, and charges are expected at a later date.
