Driver swerved to avoid deer

A Chevrolet Silverado driven by Avery M. Urban, 15, of Hoisington, went into a ditch around 8:39 p.m. Thursday, after the driver swerved to miss a deer. Kansas Highway Patrol reports the accident occurred 12.8 miles west of Hoisington, and the truck came to rest in some trees.

Urban sustained undetermined injuries and was taken to Clara Barton Hospital in Hoisington. He was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.

 

Great Bend Fire Department

Firefighters made nine ambulance runs on Thursday.

At 8:04 p.m. they responded to a report of a possible structure fire at 2604 Williams, and found the smoke coming from a chiminea in the back yard.

 

Great Bend Police

Theft of a bicycle from 1025 Main was reported Thursday.

A 19-year-old female who had been bitten by a dog was treated at Great Bend Regional Hospital’s Emergency Room at 7:32 p.m. Thursday. The humane society picked up the dog and the owner was cited because the dog did not have a rabies vaccination.
