Barton County Sheriff

A truck went into the ditch at 8:40 p.m. Thursday on K-4 at NW 120 Ave. It was reported as an injury accident with a possible ankle injury, but the driver refused treatment at the scene.

Theft of 595 feet of copper wire from an irrigation pivot near NE 20 Ave. and NE 10 Road was reported Thursday.

A tan boxer was reported stolen Thursday from 610 Houck St. in Pawnee Rock. The owner also reported puppies were stolen a few months ago.

A $2,200 lawn mower and several other items were stolen from a garage on NW 210 Road, sometime between April 17 and 22.

Troy B. Meitler of Halstead and Christina D. Chapman of Great Bend were arrested on suspicion of burglary at 12:13 p.m. Friday. Deputies were called to 563 NW 20 Ave. and believe they caught the suspects in the act. They had a vehicle and there were items in the trunk that the owner claimed were taken from the garage. Both were taken to jail in lieu of $20,000 bond, and the vehicle was impounded. Both were released later that day after posting surety bonds.

Someone kicked in the back door at Shaney’s, 571 South Main, Hoisington, it was reported Friday.

A non-injury accident occurred at 8:49 p.m. Saturday at NW 80 Road and NW 100 Ave., after a car hit a deer. Kansas Highway Patrol responded.

 

Great Bend Police

A $67.24 gas skip at 1315 10th St. was reported at 8:40 a.m. Friday.

Sharlene Smith was driving south on McKinley and struck a vehicle driven by Robert Siefkes that was southbound on McKinley stopped in traffic, at 10:43 a.m. Friday. This was reported as an injury accident.

A woman reported sending $874 by Western Union to a subject that was going to give her $2.5 million in cash and a 2011 Mercedes. She reported the scam on Friday when the subject reportedly called wanting more money.

Theft of two bikes from the yard at 817 Maple St. was reported Friday.

A hit-and-run vehicle struck a parked vehicle at 3503 10th St. on Friday.

A vehicle driven by Arthur Karst was westbound on 21st St. at 8:24 p.m. Friday and struck a vehicle driven by Brenda Kaiser that was northbound on Harrison.

A broken window at 308 Buckeye St. was reported Saturday. There was also a report of a broken window at 1104 Main St.

Someone entered a car at 1406 Harding St., taking currency and some medication, it was reported Sunday.

A $45 gas skip at 1221 10th St. was reported Sunday.

Police were called to the parking lot at 2716 10th St. at 5:19 p.m. Sunday, in regard to a woman who had been there for two hours and refused to leave. An officer contacted Melinda S. Meyer, Great Bend, who was arrested for criminal trespass. She reportedly battered the arresting officer, and was also booked into jail on charges of battering a law enforcement officer and obstruction of legal process. Bond was set at $1,000.
