Great Bend Fire/EMS
Firefighters made 11 ambulance runs on Tuesday. There were three fire calls.
At 5:10 p.m. units responded to a report of a crane on fire at Acme iron.
Upon arrival, units found a track hoe with the engine compartment on fire in the middle of the yard. The fire was knocked down quickly without difficulty.
The report by the employees is the machine was just shut down for the night and they saw smoke and flames coming from the engine compartment. They did attempt to use three fire extinguishers on the fire and were unable to put the fire out. The investigation did find the fire appeared to have started in the engine area.
At 5:31 p.m. units responded from the above fire to NW 60 avenue and K-96 for a report of a ditch on fire.
Upon arrival, units found the east ditch on fire.
The burned area was approximately 250 feet long and burned the whole ditch and into the neighboring wheat field to the east. The fire did extend into the adjacent field however, the fire was quickly brought under control with one unit. There was damage to a power pole and the power company was contacted to insure the stability of the pole.
At 9:56 p.m. units responded to the “west parking lot” on the river west of Washington for a small fire. Units arrived on scene and found a pallet burning that was quickly extinguished.
Great Bend Police
A non-injury accident was reported at Baker Avenue and Broadway Avenue.
An injury accident was reported at 24th and Washington Street. A vehicle was southbound on Washington and struck another vehicle turning from 24th Street. Minor injuries were reported.
Burglary was reported at 707 Stone St.
Criminal damage was reported in the 5200 Block of Eisenhower Avenue. A window was shattered out of a vehicle.
Criminal damage was reported in the 1100 Block of Eisenhower Avenue. A window was shattered out of a vehicle.
Criminal damage was reported at Eisenhower and Macarthur. A window was shattered out of a vehicle.
Criminal damage was reported at 1102 Eisenhower. A window was shattered out of a vehicle.
Criminal damage was reported in the 5500 Block of Warner Circle. A window was shattered out of a vehicle.
Criminal damage was reported at Touch of Country located at 2811 10th St. A window was shattered out of a building.
Criminal damage was reported at 1216 Eisenhower Ave.
Barton County Sheriff
Criminal damage was reported at L.D Drilling located at 7 SW 26 Ave. Window was damaged with a BB gun.
Criminal damage was reported at Teichman Electric located at 238 North Washington.
Burglary was reported at McGe Storage Sheds located at 86 SW 10 Ave.
Burglary to a vehicle was reported in Claflin.
