Great Bend Fire/EMS
At 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, firefighters responded to a vehicle fire at Sunset and NE 30 Road. The fire was in the engine compartment and was out before the units arrived. The driver reported he had pulled over when the “low oil” light came on, shut off the car and began adding oil. He spilled some on the intake, causing it to flame up.
At 3:13 p.m. firefighters responded to a small ditch fire at K-96 and NW 30 Ave.
There were two Emergency Medical Service calls.
Follow-up: As reported previously, a Great Bend police officer was driving by Heizer Park at 7:41 p.m. Tuesday and found a child stuck in a swing. Great Bend Fire Department responded and was able to get the child down. The Tribune asked Fire Chief Mike Napolitano for more information and learned that the child got into an infant swing he was too big for. “Believe it or not, this has happened before,” Napolitano noted.
