Barton County Sheriff

After some arguing over what channel the Barton County Jail television should be on, one inmate allegedly removed the footrest from his wheelchair and battered another inmate with it, at 3:35 p.m. Thursday.

One vehicle sideswiped another in the 1000 block of West Barton County Road at 7:24 p.m. Friday. Both vehicles had minor damage.

Someone damaged a gate on the animal shelter at the Golden Belt Humane Society, 151 South U.S. 281, and stole a dog, it was reported Sunday evening. Another dog was discovered missing later; it may have been scared and climbed out.

Great Bend Police

Christopher Wilson, 33, from West Virginia, allegedly stole items from Walmart and ran when they tried to stop him, at 2:20 p.m. Thursday. Wilson was caught in the 3800 block of 10th St. and arrested for obstruction after refusing to give correct personal information to the officers. He was booked into jail in lieu of $1,000 bond.

Travis Watkins was driving east when his vehicle went through the yard and hit a tree at 5906 Birchwood Dr. at 2:40 a.m. Friday.

Vehicles driven by David Smith and Ralph Stobel collided at Broadway and Harrison at 11:26 a.m. Friday. Strobel’s vehicle then struck a vehicle driven by Amber Demel that was stopped on Harrison facing Broadway.

Someone damaged a pickup at 2222 19th St., then entered it and took an iPod and an LED light, was reported Friday.

Vehicles driven by Chelsea Bieberle and Austin Klug collided at 12th and Roosevelt at 6:13 p.m. Friday. This was an injury accident.

A broken window at a building on Jefferson St. was reported Friday night.

Theft of a 1998 Ford pickup at 5819 Aspen Dr. was reported Saturday morning.

Vehicles driven by Jose Prieto and Lisa Reif were both backing from parking stalls on 11th St. at 9:13 a.m. Saturday and collided.

A check forgery in the amount of $59.01 was reported Saturday at 3503 10th St.

A burglary at 2714 16th St. was reported Sunday. Someone entered the garage and took a chainsaw and hedger.

Dixie Dibis was in a vehicle backing from a private drive in the 1700 block of Madison St. at 4:46 p.m. Sunday and struck a parked vehicle.

A 2000 Ford Tarus was keyed in the Walmart parking lot on Sunday evening.

Vehicles driven by Omar Acosta and Sara Bustamante collided at Eighth and Heizer St. at 7:30 p.m. Sunday.

Great Bend Fire Department

Firefighters made four ambulance runs on Thursday, seven Friday, five Saturday and five Sunday.

There was one structure fire at 1:44 a.m. Saturday, at an unoccupied house at 8th and Jefferson St. (See pg. 1).

There was one fire on the river bed on Sunday, and one false alarm due to a system malfunction on Sunday.

Ellinwood Fire Department

Firefighters and deputies from the Barton County Sheriff’s Office responded to a vehicle fire at Menges Rentals Inc., 712 Santa Fe Ave., at 2:25 a.m. Monday. There was an unoccupied truck on fire, and numerous fireworks also exploded.
