Beauty and the Beast has been a childhood staple for the past 25 years. Disney originally released the animated classic in 1991. It saw immediate success, winning two Oscars (one for Best Original Score by Alan Menken and the other for the Best Original Song Beauty and the Beast by Menken and Howard Ashman) and was the first animated film to be nominated for Best Picture.
To celebrate the 25th anniversary, Angela Lansbury, who voiced Mrs. Potts, reprised her role in the award-winning song on Sept. 19 at the Alice Tully Hall in New York City. Lansbury surprised the audience and performed the title song at the anniversary screening with Menken accompanying her at the piano.
Her voice sends listeners back to the 90s, especially when she sends Chip off to the cupboard because its past [his] bedtime. Lansbury, who is 90-years-old, sings flawlessly and engages viewers with her classic charm.
Disney re-released Beauty and the Beast today on Blu-ray and DVD.
