It looks like turkeys wont be the only thing stuffed for Thanksgiving.
Airlines for America revealed Wednesday that Thanksgiving flights will carry a record number of flyers this year.
Experts said this is happening because of low airfares.
"Low fares and increased availability of seats continue to make air travel widely accessible," said John Heimlich, vice president and chief economist of Airlines for America, to CNBC.
In total, Airlines for America, a trade group that represents airline carriers, said about 28.5 million people will travel between Friday, Nov. 17, and Tuesday, Nov. 28. Thats a 3 percent increase from last year.
Sunday, Nov. 26, will be the busiest day for flyers, with about 2.88 million expected to fly on that day alone.
But increased passengers doesnt mean late flights. A new report from RewardExpert found that Thanksgiving has the lowest rate of delayed flights.
Waiting until the last minute can pay off. The report shows the lowest rate of delayed flights occur on Thanksgiving Day, meaning an early morning flight will likely get last-minute travelers to their family dinner on time, RewardExpert said in a statement emailed to the Deseret News.
Delay times differ by carrier. About 88 percent of Delta flights are not delayed, which is the highest rate in the country. Meanwhile, about 82 percent of American Airlines and United Airlines flights dont get delayed, the report found.
The RewardExpert report found that about 85 percent of flights to and from Salt Lake City are on time, creating a positive experience for flyers.
Avoid traveling on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, though. Its the second-worst day to fly, according to the RewardExpert report. Travelers who fly on Wednesday are more likely to arrive on time.
