The force is, once again, strong with J.J. Abrams.
StarWars.com announced Tuesday morning that Abrams will return to the Star Wars saga to direct Star Wars: Episode IX.
Abrams previously directed Star Wars: Episode VII: The Force Awakens.
Abrams will also co-write the film with Chris Terrio. It will be produced by Kathleen Kennedy, Michelle Rejwan, Lucasfilm and Bad Robot, which is Abrams production company.
With 'The Force Awakens,' J.J. delivered everything we could have possibly hoped for, and I am so excited that he is coming back to close out this trilogy, said Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy.
This announcement comes a week after Disney fired Episode IX director Colin Trevorrow, who was allegedly fired for clashing with producer Kennedy, one of the higher executives of Lucasfilm, The Atlantic reported.
Some wondered if Rian Johnson, who directed Episode VIII: The Last Jedi, would return to direct the saga's ninth film. He denied those allegations on Monday.
The ninth Star Wars film is slated to hit theaters on May 24, 2019.
The Last Jedi will hit theaters on Dec. 15, 2017.
