FARMINGTON, N.M. — Arlene Helen Miles, 100, died Nov. 6, 2015, at Life Care Center in Farmington, N.M. Born Jan. 13, 1915, in Breese, Ill., she was the daughter of Carl and Stella Gerfen. Arlene graduated from high school in Carlyle, Illinois, and from a business college in St. Louis, Mo. She met Hugh S. Miles while in Carlyle and the two were married on April 26, 1943. Together, they lived in Norfolk, Va., Olney, Ill., Ardmore, Okla., and Great Bend. From 1968 to 2003, Arlene lived in Great Bend. She enjoyed entertaining friends and family, and had a passion for gardening. She and Hugh enjoyed traveling and seeing family during their retirement. In 2003, Arlene moved to Farmington, New Mexico to be with family.
Mrs. Miles was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Golden Belt Country Club, PEO, Community Concert, Progress Club, Bloomers Girl, and several Bridge clubs.
Survivors include one son, Robert H. Miles (Joyce) of Guymon, Okla.; two daughters, Janis M. Cross (Steve) of Canon City, Colo. and Jeanne G. Shaheen (Jim) of Farmington, N.M.; seven grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Hugh on Sept. 14, 2001; one sister; four brothers; and one grandson.
