B. Marie Schwartz, 82, died March 22 at Clara Barton Hospital, Hoisington. She was born April 16, 1929, at Liebenthal, the daughter of Alex and Mary (Doerfler) Pfeifer. She married Maurice C. Schwartz on July 29, 1947, at Liebenthal. She was a nurse’s aide and volunteer at Central Kansas Medical Center. Mrs. Schwartz was a Great Bend resident most of her life, coming from Liebenthal.
She was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick Catholic Church, the Altar Society, Daughters of Isabella and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3111 Ladies Auxiliary, all of Great Bend.
Survivors include her husband, of the home; seven sons, Robert Schwartz and wife Barbara of Great Bend, Duane Schwartz and wife Diane of Grand Island, Neb., Danny Schwartz and wife Stacy of Great Bend, Bill Schwartz and wife Jaynee of Great Bend, Kenny Schwartz and wife Dawn of Great Bend, Kevin Schwartz and wife Shelby Jones of Great Bend, and Keith Schwartz and wife Kay of Salina; three daughters, Kathy Pedigo and husband Don of Great Bend, Elaine Miller and husband Craig of McPherson, and Pam Stegman and husband Tom of Oklahoma City, Okla.; one brother, Joe Pfeifer of Hays; two sisters, Elenora Schmidt of Great Bend and Caroline Stoecklein of Alva, Oka., 29 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Celestine Pfeifer and Jerry Pfeifer; two sisters, Florence Matal and Armella Schmidt; and two great-grandchildren, Matthew Kearn and Faith Hitts.
Altar society rosary will be at 4 p.m. today at Bryant Funeral Home. Vigil service with Daughters of Isabella rosary will be at 7 tonight at the funeral home. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 26, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Great Bend with Father Don Bedore, celebrant. Interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Great Bend. Visitation will be from 1-9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial donations to Prince of Peace Altar Society or Daughters of Isabella may be made in care of the funeral home. Condolences may be sent and notice viewed at www.bryantfh.net.
