CLAFLIN — Bernard “Bernie” Albert Schneweis, 94, passed away April 18, 2020, at the University of Kansas Health System – Great Bend Campus, Great Bend. He was born on June 4, 1925, at Odin, to Walter and Anna (Klug) Schneweis. He married Dolores Christina Hoffman May 27, 1953 at Great Bend, Kan. She died July 13, 2013.
Survivors include, six sons, Leon Schneweis (Cinda) of Lawrence, Richard Schneweis (Debbie) of Claflin, Mark Schneweis of Fallon, Nev., Paul Schneweis (Renee) of Great Bend, Tony Schneweis (Robin) of Manhattan and Mike Schneweis of Great Bend; a daughter in law, Susan Schneweis of Ellinwood; a brother, Jim Schneweis and wife Loraine of Hoisington; 17 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Alan Schneweis; an infant daughter, Bernadette Schneweis; two brothers, Raymond Schneweis and Tom Schneweis; and two sisters, Mary Welsh and Dorothy Myers.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, April 22, 2020 at Bryant Funeral Home, with Vigil service at 7 p.m. A public Vigil livestream will be available at www.bryantfh.net under Bernard’s obituary. A private family Mass of Christian Burial will be held, Thursday, April 23, 2020, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ellinwood, with Father Terrance Klein presiding. Due to COVID19, a celebration of life will be held at a later date. Interment will be in the Claflin Cemetery, with Military Rites conducted by the Kansas National Guard.
